I’m going to tell what to omit--these five items will doom your resume to failure.

1. Salary history or expectations. Even if the ad you’re answering tells you to include this information, don’t do it. It’s a no-win situation for you. If you’re number is too high, your resume is pitched on the reject pile. If it’s too low, you’ve lost your negotiating power. Leave salary discussions and negotiations for your interview.

2. Personal data. This is a waste of precious space. No worthy employer is going to decide to hire you or reject you based on your age, marital status, or "excellent" health. If a healthy, fit body in necessary for the job, discuss it at your interview.

3. Cute gimmicks. Funny or cute graphics send the message to our employer that you don’t take job hunting seriously, and they divert his attention away from your qualifications and experience. The just facts will get you the job.

4. Your picture. Pictures are just another reason for an employer to reject you without an interview. Your picture may reveal that your too … well, anything. Don’t risk it. Never include a picture. Models and performers are the exception.

5. Reasons for leaving your previous job. This will never be in your favor. Any reason you list can be taken the wrong way. It’s best not to bring it up, unless asked about it at your interview.

Remember, résumé’s job is to get you an interview. These five things will almost always get your resume tossed on the wrong stack.
